When & Where: The Union of the Cutes and Kate
Well the planning has begun for the union of the Cutes and Kate and let me just say, it is so much fun! My mom and sisters are my wedding planners and we have all been in close contact sharing fun ideas, thoughts, and suggestions for this special day. I just have to share some details with you!! Where: Black Fox Farms in Cleveland, Tennessee
Black Fox Farms is a beautiful farm with an on site nursery and big beautiful barn for entertaining!! Some close family friends of ours own this sweet place and when we saw it we instantly fell in love! The cutes and I want this day to be casual, sweet, and full of fun, laughter, our closest friends and family. This setting will capture the "shabby chic" look we are going for. (I had to explain that term to Oscar, but when he learned the definition he was in total agreement:) We will have the ceremony outside facing the beautiful oak trees surrounding the pond and the reception will be held inside the big red barn! (How fun is that??)
When: April 17, 2010
We have set the 'tentative' date for April 17, 2010. I checked the farmers almanac (yes, I'm serious) and the weather is just so pretty that time of year in Tennessee!
So - as of now, those are the main details. I am going wedding dress shopping this weekend with my best friend, Ruthie! I am so excited about seeing her! I will keep you posted as each detail unfolds.

REAL girls Serve: Widow's Luncheon

This past Sunday, REAL girls hosted a special luncheon honoring the widows of our church. We had about 50 widows show up for a "black and white" themed luncheon immediately following our Sunday worship service. This was a great chance to introduce ourselves and offer our services to help them in any way that they may need (housework, yard work, running errands, etc...) The girls jumped right in and helped out wherever need. Some welcomed and directed the ladies, others visited with the ladies at their tables, and everyone helped serving a delicious dinner and desserts. The widows loved every part of it and almost every lady told me how honored and special she felt that these high school girls would serve them and give them their afternoon. We had a great turnout and so much fun working together!

The Proposal
Yeah....so I'm engaged:) It has been over a week and I am finally getting around to blogging about this exciting event!! So here's the scoop:Prelude
I have known I wanted to marry Oscar since last December. That probably doesn't make sense to people or you can't understand it, but I can't explain it. I just knew. That feeling has only grown and developed more and more as we have grown closer in our relationship. So, needless to say, I was ready for this special day:)
On February 14, 2009 - Oscar gave me a beautiful promise ring. He told me that he was dating me with a goal and purpose in mind. Our relationship has only grown stronger and matured over the past few months.
It was 3 weeks ago that Oscar and I had planned to meet at his place and go do some fun fall shopping. He arrived about 30 minutes late to meet me after work. I had been waiting for him outside for that entire time and was a little annoyed that he hadn't called or anything. He explained that his tardiness was due to traffic, but little did I know he had to stop by the jewelry store to pick up something special :) He told me later that as he saw me stomp over to the truck, he smiled and thought, "Woman, if you only knew what I was doing you wouldn't be so sassy."
October 13, 2009
Last Tuesday, Oscar asked if I could come up to his apartment after work. He had been sick the previous weekend, still wasn't feeling that great, and had a pretty gloomy day at work. (What I didn't know was that he had to cancel his big plans the weekend before due to his sickness..) So, I went up to his apartment and was hanging out with him when we sorta started talking...
I was a little bit sad that night because we hadn't really had any good quality time together in a while. He said, "If you could wish for one thing what would it be?"
I replied quickly, "Babe, I just want to be married to you, I love you so much!"
Then he said,"Well, maybe Friday we can do celebrate at Mark's." (A super nice and fun restaurant downtown)
I replied quickly, "Babe, I just want to be married to you, I love you so much!"
Then he said,"Well, maybe Friday we can do celebrate at Mark's." (A super nice and fun restaurant downtown)
Then he asked to grab my hand. I sorta pulled it back thinking he was teasing me and said, "Stop, that's not funny.."
The he said, "No, I'm serious...I think I dropped it.."
He fumbled for a second and I realized this was really happening. He was proposing to me! Then he put the ring on my finger and said, "I want you to be my wife..."
I just started crying, and I don't mean a cute little dainty tearing up of the eye, I mean a full out sob. I couldn't believe this was really happening. I kept saying, "Are you serious...I'm so happy!" I think he wasn't sure how I felt at first because I could not stop crying to reply, "I want to be your wife more than anything!"Aw..I love him so much and I am just so excited about our future together. I remember my mom and dad saying to me, "Kate, you know you have met the right person when you are both better together than you are separate." And I must say that is completely true with Oscar and me! He has taught me so much about myself
This past weekend we celebrated our engagement at Mark's. It is an old church turned in to a beautiful quaint restaurant. It was the nicest, prettiest, yummiest, funniest, sweetest, most romantic place I have ever eaten! We dressed up and looked like movie stars (atleast we thought so) and went out for a fun night together to celebrate such a fun future together! (I lost my camera battery charger, so we only had my phone to take pictures. However, when I tried to discreetly take his picture, my mega-bright flash turned on and we got nervous that people would realize that we were truly rednecks..so I kept it in my purse for the remainder of the evening)For our appetizer we had what was called a 'Munchkin Pumpkin' . It was a miniature pumpkin cooked in Cider and then served with lobster and delicious seasonings. It tasted like fall in a bowl, with a side of lobster.
For the main course: Oscar ordered the Alaskan King Crab (we had to ask how you eat it before because we weren't sure..haha)
I ordered the Snapper with Brazilian Fish Ribs..(did you even know that fish have ribs? I didnt..but they do and they are yummy with a spicy sauce)
For dessert: We had a Dark chocolate lava cake served with chocolate cookie that had a congratulations message written in gold just for us! It was so sweet - but we ate it:)
The union of the Cutes and Kate will take place in Tennessee in the spring! The planning has already begun so stay tuned for details:)

Rihanna's Russian Roulette
Okay - So I am going to fill you all in on the exciting engagement story:) BUT first, I heard Rihanna's new song entitled 'Russian Roulette' this morning on my way to work and had to talk about it!
The song was allegedly written during her hard year dealing with the Chris Brown drama. The lyrics are so dark and point to feelings of hopelessness and despair. The song talks about playing the game of Russian roulette and the emotions involved deciding when to 'pull the trigger.' It ends with a pause, deep sigh, the sound of a revolver turning, and then a gun shot... very dark.
Here is a section from the LA Times written about this topic:
"The lyrics are vague enough to keep people guessing but hint at a situation one probably doesn't want to be in the middle of. "He says close your eyes, sometimes it helps," Rihanna sings with unshaken directness, adding, ominously, "and then I get a scary thought." The beats close in around her, and the strings quiver as if they're being played through gritted teeth, building in the end to something almost approaching a theme to a Bond film.
But make no mistake, although the song comes to a close with a final bang, Rihanna is the heroine here. "So just pull the trigger," she tosses off in the cut's final moments, all swagger and confidence. The narrative of the song -- and just who, exactly, is the shooter -- matters less than Rihanna's command performance. A midtempo song without overbearing production, the single belongs all to Rihanna, and she makes the best of it -- a bit icy, a tad fearless, with the vocal strength to keep the orchestral flourishes at bay."
It's just a song, I mean who cares right? Hm...not for me. When hurting people listen to this, they relate, they have a false sense of hope and escape. It honestly made me sad...so many people don't know True Hope and True Love that comes only from our Father God. They are hopeless and afraid. Anyways, I just wanted to share my thoughts.... the song didn't offend me, just made me sad.

FR09 Followup!
On Tuesday I told you about this little thing called Fall Riot that we were getting all geared up for. This event is very unique to our ministry because it is completely on the shoulders of our student ministry to get into their friend groups and bring their unchurched friends! Well guess what - they did it. Last night was absolutely amazing! This was one of the funnest things I have ever been a part of during my time in ministry. Our entire youth team had a significant role in putting together such a fun and exciting night. Michael Head delivered such a great message and challenge straight from Gods Word. We saw God draw 249 students to Himself last night. I was completely blown away that God can use a bunch a crazy people to do something so amazing!

This week we are working hard to followup with each student that made a decision. We want to see these students grow and develop in their faith. Please be praying as we continue to reach out to the students of Katy, Texas and watch God's power invade the schools and lives of every student!
Here are a few more pics:

Fall Riot '09
Fall Riot is tomorrow night, September 30, at 6:30pm. This is going to be a crazy fun night. We already have 2 varsity cheer teams and 1 drill team from 3 different high school in the Katy area. Several varsity and JHigh quarterbacks are coming to compete in the quarterback competition along with 2 DJ's, a professional dance crew, amazing giveaways and prizes, free pizza, and a few little weird elements in between. This is going to be such a fun night for the JHigh and High School students of Katy, Texas!
This event is exciting to me because the success is completely placed on the burden of our students for their friends! We are encouraging our students to get into their friend groups, teams, clubs, and schools and invite the people they see everyday! We want them to own this event and lift up their friends in prayer to God.
Our team of staff and volunteers are all praying for God to do amazing works in the hearts of these students and to see lives completely changed. If you get a chance, lift up the Second Baptist Youth Ministry in prayer as we seek to share the love of Christ with thousands of students across the Houston area.
Check out a short clip from some of the REAL girls of the 210 Student Ministry promoting Fall Riot in their 80's Outfits:)
